Though he was harshly treated, he submitted and opened not his mouth; like a lamb led to the slaughter or a sheep before the shearers, he was silent and opened not his mouth. Oppressed and condemned, he was taken away, and who would have thought any more of his destiny? | Isaiah 53:7-8

Brothers and sisters: I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus, on the night he was handed over, took bread, and, after he had given thanks, broke it and said, “This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” | 1 Corinthians 11:23-24

Easter Triduum is a term used by the Roman Catholic Church to denote the three days from the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday. The Triduum begins with the evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper and ends after evening prayers at sunset on Easter Day. The term was used at the Second Vatican Council, when the revised liturgical calendar set the final part of Holy Week apart from Lent proper. Previously, these three days had already gained distinction from the rest of Holy Week with an observance of silence, known as “the still days.”
.
As our Lenten journey comes to a close, we invite you into a sacred pause, a moment of silence, and a space for deep reflection. Reflect on the lack of understanding the apostles had at what was about to happen. Jesus said as much to Simon Peter when washing his feet. John`s Gospel points out the lack of understanding of the Empty Tomb. How could anyone understand the Glorious Mystery that was to occur?

He took along Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to feel sorrow and distress. Then he said to them, "My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here and keep watch with me." He advanced a little and fell prostrate in prayer, saying, "My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet, not as I will, but as You will." | Matthew 26:37-39

The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you, and you want to go back there?” Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in a day? If one walks during the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. But if one walks at night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.” He said this, and then told them, “Our friend Lazarus is asleep, but I am going to awaken him.” | John 11:8-11

His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Jesus answered, “Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him. We have to do the works of the one who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” | John 9:2-5

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; and indeed the Father seeks such people to worship him. God is Spirit, and those who worship him must worship in Spirit and truth.” | John 4:23-24

“...then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate and were very much afraid. But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and do not be afraid.” And when the disciples raised their eyes, they saw no one else but Jesus alone. | Matthew 17:5-8

The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.” He said in reply, “It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” | Matthew 4:3-4

Even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning; Rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God. For gracious and merciful is he, slow to anger, rich in kindness, and relenting in punishment. | Joel 2:12-13

The start of our Lenten journey begins this Wednesday, February 18, as we turn our focus to Christ’s own journey to His Passion and Death. While Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation, it is one of our most well-attended Mass days throughout our liturgical year, especially at our midday Mass, so please plan accordingly.

“A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket; it is set on a lampstand, where it gives light to all in the house. Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father." | Matthew 5:14-16
.
Salt and light are so ordinary—present in nearly every home, every meal, every sunrise—and yet, in Jesus’ hands, they become extraordinary images of the Christian life.
.
Light pierces every dark corner and dispels every clouded thought. Darkness is not chased away by shouting at it or wishing it gone. It only retreats when light appears. Christ’s light shines in and through us, not so that we can boast or draw attention to ourselves, but so that others may “see Your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” Each day, we should ask ourselves: Am I dimming my light out of fear, pride, or selfishness, or am I letting it shine to draw others closer to Christ?
